IdM 16

See IdM 16 - Full version overview page for a comprehensive description of what's changed in this major release.

IdM 16 is a generational upgrade in terms of backend technology, updating all of backend framework to their latest available stable versions - this is mainly SpringBoot 4. This allows IdM 16 to stay up to date with the latest security and performance patches on all of its dependencies.

This version also completes the transition to the new approval engine, which was introduced in IdM 15 alongside the original workflow system (Activiti). The original system has been completely removed in IdM 16 - all approvals now run exclusively on the new engine and are configured in the graphical interface of the application, not by deploying BPMN files and setting configuration properties. The second fundamental change is that IdM 16 supports PostgreSQL only.

IdM 16 is planned as the next LTS version after IdM 14.

Q3 2026

Early release versions, may not have final feature parity between old and new approval processes.

Q1 2027

General public release

Old approval processes completely removed from IdStory IdM and completely replaced with new workflows

Post-quantum encryption implemented

Q2 2027

MCP server for IdStory IdM to allow connecting IdStory IdM to internally hosted AI models.

Q3 2027

AI assisted IdM configuration

Q4 2027

IdM 16 becomes new LTS, replacing IdM 14
